about the name
why "newstory"
When we first arrived in Las Cruces, we prayed and asked the Lord to give us a name for the church. For weeks, nothing felt right. So instead of forcing it, we slowed down and started listening, to God and to the city. We immersed ourselves in the culture and rhythm of Las Cruces, paying attention to people’s stories, struggles, and hopes.
What we saw was both beautiful and evident: real pain, poverty, addiction, and a deep longing for hope in a place where bad news often feels louder than good news. In that space of prayer and listening, the Lord placed the name newstory on our hearts.
That name is rooted in Scripture, where we repeatedly see God’s transforming work in people’s lives—from Jacob, the deceiver, being renamed Israel after wrestling with God, to the promise of 2 Corinthians 5:17 that in Christ, we are made new. newstory reflects this truth: Jesus doesn’t simply step into our story—He rewrites it. He transforms what has been broken and gives us a story marked by purpose, redemption, and hope. That’s the heart behind our church: inviting people in Las Cruces to step into the new story God is writing for them.

Meet our pastors
Hello Las Cruces!
We are Pastors Fernando & Faith Morales. We are husband-and-wife team, passionate about seeing people encounter Jesus and grow in their faith.
We have served together as ordained pastors in the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel for 12 years. Our story began at Christ For The Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas, where we met, discovered our ministry calling, and later served with Youth For The Nations while completing studies in Practical Ministry and Worship & Technical Arts. From there, we served as Youth and Associate Pastors, pursued further theological training through The King’s University in Southlake, Texas, and spent more than a decade ministering to youth, young adults, and families across camps, conferences, and local churches.
As parents of three young children, we care deeply about building a Christ-centered home, investing in the next generation, and doing life in authentic community, often with friends around the table, kids in the mix, and plenty of laughter in the background.
We believe God has called us to Las Cruces, New Mexico—a city rich in history and deep spiritual roots—to plant a church where people can encounter Jesus, experience true transformation, discover their God-given purpose and gifts, and share them with the world.
